To maximise environmental benefits 100 per cent biodiesel is the answer.
Whilst the most common blend of 7 per cent biodiesel to 93 per cent mineral diesel requires no modifications to vehicle engines or to fuel supply chain logistics, the use of 100 per cent biodiesel, or B100, is different.
B100 needs to be kept heated and that requires dedicated fuel storage tanks and some alterations to vehicles.
Once the necessary modifications are made, it works very well, as Stagecoach, one of the UK’s biggest bus and coach operators, found out. We worked with Stagecoach on a high profile trial and now the company has several buses which run on our environmentally friendly fuel.
At frst start up, the buses run on mineral diesel until normal operating temperature is achieved. The system then automatically switches over to biodiesel which powers the vehicles all day. The biodiesel burns clean and hot. And that means cleaner engines and much reduced particulate matter in the exhaust fumes. The solvent properties of the fuel also deliver cleaner tanks and pipes as impurities are swept away. As a result the fuel filters have more work to do and may need to be replaced more frequently.
Our technical experts are happy to talk about how B100 can best fit in to your operations.
