The biodiesel production process produces certain by-products including glycerol and potassium sulphate. These two by-products (when resulting from the processing of Category 2 and 3 tallow and UCO) have to meet specified standards and requirements, if they are not to be classified as waste.

Given that Category 1 tallow comprises part of the feedstock, all potassium sulphate and glycerol by-products from the biodiesel plant are currently treated as waste under applicable legislation and have to be disposed of. Therefore the Group is not currently able commercially to exploit these by-products.

The process also produces another biofuel oil during the distillation process which is currently used as a fuel source for the boiler in the plant. The biofuel oil replaces the majority of the gas oil in the plant's boiler, providing a "closed loop" system.
