Switching to Argent Energy's 30 per cent biodiesel blend is helping a leading leaflet marketing specialist in its ambition to become carbon neutral by 2015.

EAE Ltd, who distribute display stands, tourist information leaflets and other promotional material to some 5,000 locations in Scotland have just taken delivery of 7 Citroen Relay vans which will run on Argent Energy's B30.

The firm plans to switch the rest of their 21-strong fleet of vehicles by the end of 2012 saving some 80 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Dickon Posnett, Argent Energy's development director, said: "We are delighted that EAE are using our B30 blend to reduce their CO2 emissions. Because our clean, green, road fuel is made by recycling waste, it's very sustainable and that means that using it instead of fossil fuel is a great way of cutting down on greenhouse gasses."

It is now standard for biodiesel to be used in a blend of up to 7 per cent biodiesel to 93 per cent mineral diesel, but after a successful trial with Stagecoach some buses now run on 100 per cent biodiesel and so can Argent Energy's own truck fleet. In between, there is substantial demand for high percentage blends because of the carbon savings that can be delivered together with ease of use and the economic benefits that come with improved miles per gallon.

"Operational reliability is, of course, crucial," added Dickon Posnett. "That's why we've invested heavily in distillation technology. This is unique in the UK and delivers a consistently high level of fuel purity. And we have a sophisticated laboratory at the heart of our plant that helps ensure that all our fuel meets the European Standard - something that both EAE and Citroen rightly insist on."

A life-long passion for all things 'green' has fed Glen Bennett, EAE's managing director's desire to make EAE Scotland's greenest leaflet distribution company.

He said: "EAE is committed to reducing its carbon footprint and 30 per cent biodiesel usage will reduce the Relay's annual CO2 emissions by around 3.8 tonnes per vehicle. This is a significant reduction and will play a key role in our move to achieve carbon-neutral operational status by 2015."

EAE has installed a 5,000 litre tank to store its bio-diesel. Also, as part of its CO2 reduction programme all EAE drivers have benefitted from eco-driving training which has seen a 15 per cent improvement in fuel economy.
